Harvest festivals are traditional celebrations associated with the end of the harvest, which have deep roots in the agricultural culture of Central and Eastern Europe. In the past, harvest festivals were a celebration of thanksgiving for a successful harvest and included a series of rituals, songs, dances and games to ensure abundance and prosperity in the coming year. The centrepiece of the celebration was the harvest wreath, which was woven from the last harvested ears to symbolise the harvest. Even today, harvest festivals are still celebrated in many villages and towns, where they are a popular social event that recalls the importance of agriculture and traditional values. These festivals provide an opportunity for community gatherings, entertainment and the preservation of cultural heritage.
