Summer on the Web: Travel Websites Then and Now
Summer is a time for day trips, holidays and discovering new places, and it is also the time when people most often look for tips on day trips, walking routes or information about the regions they are planning to visit.
Tourism and travel portals, websites dedicated to regional geography and history, and travel blogs are often created with great enthusiasm, but over the years they disappear, change their address or cease to exist altogether. Thanks to the regular archiving of selected websites, the Webarchiv offers a glimpse into what Czech tourism and regional geography looked like online in the past – even for sources that can no longer be found on the internet today.

Klub českých turistů : KČT
The Czech Tourist Club is one of the websites that the Webarchiv has been monitoring continuously over the long term. It has been regularly archived since 2013, and its archive collection thus allows us to track how not only the website’s design but also the way in which the club presents tourism has changed over time.

Castles.cz : hrady, zámky a tvrze Čech, Moravy a Slezska
The website Castles.cz met with a completely different fate; it was once an extensive online encyclopaedia of castles, châteaux and fortresses in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia featuring the history of individual sites, tourist information, photo galleries and an overview of noble families. Today, the website at that address is no longer operational, and the only place where its content can be viewed again is the archived version on Webarchiv.
